Writing about Rituals, Ceremonies and Celebrations with Akila Richards / 10mins

What is a ritual? What are your personal ceremonies that you take part in? How is the way you celebrate important events in your life, like birthdays or festivals, differ to your friends and other people you know? Explore these themes through writing exercises in this short Mini Masterclass with writer and poet Akila Richards. Akila designed this online Mini Masterclass as part of the Hidden Histories project. Hidden Histories is a creative writing project exploring heritage, identity and personal stories. Produced by Little Green Pig in partnership with Patcham High School. Funded by Arts Council England. Akila Richards is a workshop leader on Little Green Pig’s Hidden Histories project. Akila is an award winning writer, poet and spoken word artist. She facilitates, collaborates and leads cultural and artistic events, runs workshops and initiatives. Her performances and readings take place in settings including in Mboka Festival in Gambia/UK, other African countries, Europe and Caribbean. Akila also experiments and created a multi–lingual soundscape and printed poems on textiles. Her residencies include Creative Future supporting marginalised writers and Waterloo Press supporting emerging poets. She was as Writer/Co-curator for TENEBRAE – Lessons Learnt in Darkness, Brighton Festival 2021.
