Discover his top tips on how to start, how to be braver and have more fun in this mini masterclass. Tanaka designed this Mini Masterclass as part of the Hidden Histories project. Hidden Histories is a creative writing project exploring heritage, identity and personal stories. Produced by Little Green Pig in partnership with Patcham High School. Funded by Arts Council England. Tanaka Mhishi is a writer, performer and researcher who works in London and the South East. He has written/performed for BBC 3, The Rialto and The Brighton Festival. Tanaka teaches creative writing to students from Key Stage 3 through to undergraduate level, with an emphasis on poetry and autobiography. He works to create research-grounded creative interrogations of social issues relating to body-trauma, masculinity, gender, sensuality and race.He taught ‘Writing the Reef’ a Creative Response workshop for 15-18 year olds at Fabrica Gallery in Brighton, and undertook a writing residency at the University of Brighton. Tanaka is wrote and performed in Boys Don’t, a Papertale production in collaboration with Apples and Snakes Southeast for ages 8-12.
